The Lunar Nodes
The Lunar Nodes are not planets, but invisible points in the sky where the Moon’s orbit around Earth crosses the Sun’s path. Even though you can’t see them, they carry enormous meaning in astrology. They’re like the compass of the soul — pointing to where we’ve been and where we’re meant to grow.
The two Nodes always sit opposite one another, like two ends of a seesaw:
- North Node (the Dragon’s Head): The direction of growth. Your soul’s future, lessons, and the new territory that calls you forward.
- South Node (the Dragon’s Tail): The place of memory. Your past patterns, habits, and the comfort zones you already know well.
North Node: Your Soul’s Compass
The North Node can feel awkward at first, like trying on shoes that are slightly too big. It asks you to stretch into new experiences, to step beyond the safe and familiar. But as you grow into it, it becomes the place where you feel most alive. It is the path of courage and fulfillment — your compass pointing to the horizon.
South Node: Your Old Backpack
The South Node carries your old backpack — filled with skills, instincts, and habits you’ve collected over lifetimes. Some of those tools are helpful, but if you cling too tightly to them, the backpack gets heavy. The lesson is not to throw it away, but to know what to keep and what to set down, so you can move forward freely.
Together: The Axis of Growth
The Nodes always oppose one another, creating a cosmic tug-of-war between past and future. The balance is found by honoring your South Node wisdom while daring to grow into your North Node lessons. This axis becomes the doorway between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming.
Why the Nodes Matter
- They show the story of your soul’s journey — the past you’ve mastered and the future you’re learning to embrace.
- They explain the tension you may feel between comfort and growth.
- They tie into eclipses, which occur near the Nodes — that’s why eclipses often feel fated or life-changing.
In short: The Lunar Nodes are the soul’s compass. The South Node is the past, the well-worn path you know by heart. The North Node is the future, the untraveled road that asks you to grow. Together, they remind us that our lives are not just about repeating history — they are about writing the next chapter with courage and heart.
